How to Test Your Car's Battery

Your car's battery is what allows it to start when you turn the key. It's important to make sure it's in the best condition. We all know that eventually, a car battery is going to fail. So it's important to check it occasionally.

A good battery is usually under 4 years old. It will read above 12.4 volts when tested with a voltmeter. And it can accept and retain a charge. Bad batteries tend to be older, read under 12.0 volts and won't accept a charge. Before checking the battery, make sure the lights are off and the key is not in the ignition. Connect the red voltmeter lead to the positive terminal. Then connect the black lead to the negative terminal. If your battery reads under 12.4, it's probably time for a replacement.

Our service center here at Feeny Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Gaylord, MI is always happy to help you find the right replacement battery for your vehicle.
